Leave Travel Concession Rules: Within 48 hours of approving the 8th Pay Commission, the Modi government has given another gift to the government employees. The Central Government has provided the facility to government employees to travel in luxury trains like Vande Bharat Express, Humsafar Express and Tejas Express under LTC (Leave Travel Concession). It has been said in the notification that government employees of all levels can now avail their Leave Travel Concession (LTC).

The central government had extended by two years the scheme for its employees to avail Leave Travel Concession (LTC) for travel to Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and North-Eastern States. Now this scheme will be applicable from 26 September 2024 to 25 September 2026. Under this scheme, government employees can exchange their home town LTC to travel to these selected places.

Which passengers will get exemption up to what level? Employees at Level 11 and below can use chair car travel on short and medium distance rail journeys in Vande Bharat, Tejas and Shatabdi Express trains. Whereas Level 12 and above employees are eligible for Executive Chair Car accommodation in these trains. For long distance journeys in trains with berths in luxury trains like Rajdhanis, employees at Level 12 and above can opt to travel in Second AC. Employees ranked from Level 6 to 11 have the option of Second AC travel, while employees in Level 5 and below are entitled to Third AC travel for their LTC journeys.

Salary will increase double
If the fitment factor is increased to 1.92 in the 8th Pay Commission, then with its help the minimum salary of government employees in the country can increase from Rs 18 thousand to Rs 34,560. Whereas the minimum pension of retired pensioners from government jobs can reach Rs 17,280. Based on some media reports, the government may compromise on the factor of 1.92 under the 8th Pay Commission. According to some reports, the government will opt for a higher fitment factor of at least 2.86.
