Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case of Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam, an Indore couple who went missing in Shillong, Meghalaya. Raja’s body was later discovered, but Sonam remains missing. The Chief Minister stated on social media that the state government is supporting Sonam Raghuvanshi’s family during this difficult time. He mentioned having discussed the matter with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, with senior Madhya Pradesh police officials in contact with Meghalaya authorities. Yadav urged Amit Shah to order a CBI investigation and assured that all efforts are being made to find Sonam Raghuvanshi. The family of Raja Raghuvanshi had previously written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a CBI inquiry after Raja’s remains were found in a gorge in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya. The couple was last seen on May 23 during their honeymoon. Raja’s remains were recovered on June 2. Sonam is still missing, and the search continues. Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja’s brother, has stated the family’s belief that a CBI investigation is necessary for justice and to aid in finding Sonam. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has offered condolences and pledged that all necessary steps will be taken to bring those responsible to justice.
