A significant lapse in healthcare has come to light in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Nurses at the district hospital reportedly refused to admit a pregnant woman, claiming her fetus had died in the womb. The woman was then taken to a private hospital where she delivered a healthy baby. This incident has sparked controversy, prompting the administration to launch an investigation.

Vinod Saw recounted that he travelled approximately 120 kilometers from the Chalkusha block to bring his wife, Manisha Devi, to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital in Hazaribagh on Wednesday. However, the nurses cited low hemoglobin levels and stated that the fetus had died.

Despite this, Vinod Saw took his wife to a private hospital in the district, where Manisha delivered a healthy baby. Vinod Saw expressed his gratitude to the doctors at St. Columba Mission Hospital for the safe delivery.

Following the uproar, Hazaribagh’s Deputy Commissioner, Shashi Prakash Singh, ordered an investigation into the matter on Friday and instructed the Superintendent of Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital to form a committee to probe the incident. Deputy Commissioner Shashi Prakash Singh stated, ‘The role of government hospitals is to provide better treatment to patients at a lower cost, but treatment was denied here. I have directed the hospital administration to constitute an inquiry committee in this regard.’

Dr. Praveen Kumar, the owner of the private hospital, said that after admitting Manisha, several necessary tests were conducted, and the reports were satisfactory. The woman subsequently delivered a healthy baby. Dr. Kumar added, ‘Both the mother and the newborn are healthy.’
