The Gujarat government has announced a day of state mourning for former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who perished in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. His funeral is scheduled to take place in Rajkot. During the mourning period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings, and there will be no official entertainment. DNA testing has been used to identify the remains of the victims. The authorities have confirmed the identification of 86 victims through DNA analysis, and the process continues. The crash of the London-bound Air India Flight 171 resulted in the loss of 270 lives, including Rupani, who was traveling to see his daughter. One survivor, a British national of Indian origin, is being treated in a hospital. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has recovered the black box. Air India is providing assistance to the families of the victims.
