Sophie Devine’s decision to retire from One Day Internationals marks the end of a distinguished chapter in New Zealand cricket. However, her continued presence in the T20 format ensures fans will still witness her dynamic leadership and playing style.

“It feels like the right time for me to start stepping away,” Devine stated. “I am fortunate to have NZC’s support in finding a solution that allows me to continue contributing to the White Ferns.”

Devine emphasized her commitment, saying, “It’s important that everyone knows I’m focused and dedicated to giving this group everything I can before I step away.” She expressed excitement about the young team’s progress and her role in the upcoming months.

The 35-year-old all-rounder confirmed her retirement from ODIs following the next 50-over World Cup, scheduled for later this year in India and Sri Lanka. Despite this, she will remain available for T20 internationals, having signed a flexible playing contract with New Zealand Cricket. This announcement comes as New Zealand prepares to release its central contract list for the women’s team, where Devine will not be included due to her shift away from the longer white-ball format. She will continue as captain throughout the World Cup campaign before a new captain takes over for the upcoming ODI matches, starting with New Zealand’s home summer.
