    On June 12, 2025, an Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft, en route from Ahmedabad to London, tragically crashed into a medical college hostel, resulting in the loss of 274 lives. Among the victims was Dirdh Patel, a 23-year-old cricketer who had recently completed his MSc in Artificial Intelligence. Wharfedale Senior Cricket League and BBC confirmed his passing.

    The League expressed deep sorrow upon learning of Dirdh Patel’s death. He played as the overseas player for Leeds Modernians CC in 2024, achieving a remarkable record of 312 runs and 29 wickets in 20 matches. The club will observe a minute of silence to honor his memory. Dirdh studied at the University of Huddersfield. Dr. George Bargiannis, a reader in artificial intelligence, remembered him as an exceptional individual, highlighting his intellectual curiosity and potential to make a positive impact. Dr. Bargiannis shared his grief and offered condolences to the Patel family and all who knew him.
