Meta is expanding its wearable tech offerings with the upcoming release of smart glasses in partnership with Oakley. An official Instagram account, ‘Oakley | Meta,’ confirmed a product launch on June 20th. This marks Meta’s continued foray into the smart glasses market following its successful collaboration with Ray-Ban.

The Oakley version is anticipated to cater to outdoor enthusiasts and athletes, differing from the more casual Ray-Ban Meta Glasses. The glasses will feature a center-mounted action-style camera, ideal for sports and on-the-go recording. This design signals a shift towards a more active and functional approach.

Meta’s previous smart glasses launch with Ray-Ban has already seen over 2 million units sold. The company aims to produce 10 million units annually by the end of 2026. The rising popularity of AI wearables is fueling adoption, and Meta is leveraging this trend with Oakley.

Google is also entering the market, announcing collaborations with fashion eyewear brands like Warby Parker, Gentle Monster, and Kering Eyewear. Powered by the Android XR platform, this move will intensify competition. Apple is also preparing to introduce its own smart glasses.

Apple plans to release its first-generation smart glasses by late 2026. Prototypes will begin large-scale production later this year, driven by the Vision Products Group, which developed the Vision Pro headset. Anticipated features include real-time translation, Siri voice control, scene recognition, and turn-by-turn navigation. The glasses are expected to include built-in cameras, microphones, and speakers, offering a more advanced experience compared to current offerings.
