The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faces a significant financial setback as the Bombay High Court upheld an arbitral award, mandating the payment of over ₹538 crores to Kochi Tuskers Kerala, a former Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. This ruling resolves a long-standing dispute concerning the team’s termination from the IPL fourteen years ago. Justice R.I. Chagla, presiding over the case, dismissed the BCCI’s challenge, affirming that the court could not overturn the arbitral tribunal’s findings. The court emphasized that the BCCI’s dissatisfaction with the evidence or merits of the case was not grounds for appeal. The arbitrator’s conclusion that the BCCI’s termination of the Kochi franchise constituted a breach of contract was deemed appropriate, based on the evidence presented.
