During Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist sites in Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces effectively utilized a combination of both foreign and domestically produced weaponry. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh highlighted the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile as a pivotal element, calling it a game-changer in the operation. He emphasized the successful integration of diverse weapon systems and the cohesive manner in which the armed forces executed the operation. The Defence Secretary also noted the impressive performance of indigenous weapons like BrahMos and Akash, alongside the enhanced capabilities of older air defense systems, particularly against drones and low-flying threats. He confirmed the forces’ preparedness, citing their confidence in accessing precision standoff weapons. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. The Defence Secretary further discussed the growth of the defence modernization budget, the challenges in absorbing outlays, and the significant increase in contract signings, underscoring the rapid expansion of India’s defense production, particularly since the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
