In light of growing traffic and increased speeds, road safety is paramount. To enhance rider safety, the government will mandate the installation of Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) on all two-wheelers sold in India, starting January 2026. Dealerships will also be required to provide two BIS-certified helmets with each new vehicle. This measure aims to reduce accidents and fatalities, particularly those involving skidding and head injuries. While welcomed overall, some manufacturers express concern about potential price increases, especially for entry-level models. The implementation is expected to add approximately ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 to the price of some models, notably those under 125cc and entry-level bikes. The Ministry of Transport is expected to release guidelines soon for smooth implementation.
