The recent retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket have sparked discussions about their potential participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup. While the tournament is still a couple of years away, the prospect of these Indian cricket legends playing in what could be their final ICC event has ignited fan interest. By 2027, Kohli will be 39 and Rohit 40, requiring exceptional fitness and discipline to compete at the highest level. With the Test and T20 formats no longer demanding their time, they could potentially focus on ODIs. However, Sourav Ganguly, former captain of India, believes the path to the World Cup isn’t straightforward. He emphasizes that Kohli and Rohit would need to actively participate in a significant number of the 27 ODIs scheduled leading up to the World Cup. Ganguly noted that the game eventually moves on from every player and they too will eventually move away from the game.
