Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed serious concern over the escalating tensions in the region during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday. The conversation followed the United States’ attacks on Iranian nuclear sites. Modi emphasized the urgent need for dialogue and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation. In a post on X, PM Modi stated he had discussed the current situation in detail, expressing deep concern about the recent escalations. He reiterated India’s call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy to restore regional peace, security, and stability.

This followed reports that the US had launched ‘precise and large-scale’ attacks on Iran, as stated by Trump on Saturday. Trump warned of further action if peace is not maintained. Iran condemned the attacks as violations of international law and affirmed its commitment to its nuclear program. A statement from AEOI confirmed the attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, describing them as a violation of international laws, specifically the NPT, and criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for its perceived indifference or complicity. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US military action, viewing it as a potentially historic move. The conflict between Israel and Iran, now in its ninth day, has seen increasing US support for Israel. Simultaneously, India is actively working to evacuate its citizens from Iran, with several flights planned for this purpose.
