Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the Mahavirayatan Foundation in Mumbai, focusing on the theme ‘Samvaad Se Samadhaan – Ek Paricharcha,’ which translates to ‘Dialogue for Resolution – A Discussion.’ He underscored the importance of dialogue, peace, and democratic values in addressing current challenges. Birla emphasized the enduring relevance of Lord Mahavir’s teachings, linking them to India’s democratic roots and the celebration of 75 years of the Constitution. He noted that Mahavir’s principles of non-violence, compassion, and self-discipline remain crucial in modern times. Birla stated that these teachings are a holistic way of life promoting harmony and ethical conduct. He argued that in a world marked by conflict, dialogue is essential, highlighting that peaceful discussion is the only sustainable path. He also discussed India’s long history of democracy, predating its independence. He reiterated that India’s democratic institutions are based on discussion and cooperation, and he sees India as a global example of democratic success. He called for a deeper understanding of India’s democratic heritage and the wisdom of spiritual leaders like Lord Mahavir, both of which promote dialogue and compassion.
