Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the recent decline in registrations for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra during a press conference in Srinagar. While registrations experienced a brief downturn after an incident in Pahalgam on April 22, Sinha expressed confidence in a steady increase in numbers. Initially, 2.36 lakh devotees had signed up. Post-incident, registrations have crossed 85,000, and the administration anticipates further growth. The previous year saw over 5.12 lakh pilgrims. This year, there is a 10.19% decrease in turnout. Helicopter services will not be available this year due to safety concerns. The tracks at Baltal and Chandanwari-Pahalgam have been widened, and vulnerable zones are secured. Two permanent 100-bed hospitals are established at Baltal and Nunwan, along with additional medical teams. An RFID-based tracking system monitors pilgrims and staff. Security is bolstered by JK Police, Army, and CAPFs. Pilgrims in private vehicles are urged to join security convoys. The Yatra is scheduled for 44 days, concluding on August 15.
