The Odisha government has finalized Concession Agreements for significant port infrastructure projects, signaling a major boost to its maritime trade capabilities. These agreements encompass the expansion of Gopalpur Port and the establishment of a captive jetty at Jatadhari river mouth in Jagatsinghpur district. The projects represent a combined investment of Rs 18,654 crore.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted the projects’ importance in transforming Odisha into a pivotal maritime trade hub during the signing ceremony at Lok Seva Bhawan. Key aspects of the agreements include a Rs 2,100 crore investment by JSW Utkal Steel Limited for a 52 million metric tonne (MMT) capacity captive jetty at Jatadhari, and a Rs 16,554 crore investment for the expansion and modernization of Gopalpur Port by Gopalpur Ports Limited. The initiatives are projected to generate approximately 8,450 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The captive jetty at Jatadhari, located in Jagatsinghpur, will be developed by JSW Utkal Steel Limited and is anticipated to create around 3,450 jobs. Gopalpur Ports Limited (Adani Ports) will modernize and expand Gopalpur Port, aiming to increase its cargo handling capacity to 50 MMT, thereby providing approximately 5,000 employment opportunities. The state government is prioritizing port infrastructure development to stimulate sea trade. The Chief Minister also revealed plans to establish two new ports at Inchudi and Bahuda, in addition to ongoing development plans for Subarnarekha and Astaranga ports. Majhi expressed confidence that prominent companies like Adani Ports and JSW Steel will lead Odisha towards port-led growth.
