In preparation for the upcoming assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list across Bihar. The campaign, running from June 25th to July 26th, 2025, involves Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visiting homes to collect information from voters and fill out Enumeration Forms (EF). This process, underway in all 243 assembly constituencies in Bihar, aims to verify the details of over 7.89 crore registered voters, ensuring accuracy, adding eligible new voters, and removing ineligible names. The commission has introduced both online and offline facilities for this process, including the option to download and submit forms via the website and the upcoming ECINET mobile app. Voters are required to provide updated photographs, along with self-attested proof of date and place of birth. SMS alerts are being sent to registered mobile numbers to inform voters about the campaign. Political parties are actively involved, with over 154,977 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed. The final voter list will be published on September 30, 2025. The initiative has sparked political debate, with AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi labeling it a ‘hidden NRC,’ while ruling parties view it as the Election Commission’s efforts to ensure transparency and fairness.
