As the US House of Representatives prepared for a final vote on Donald Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ the former President expressed frustration with Republican senators for delaying the bill’s progress. Despite initial setbacks, Republicans ultimately advanced the tax cut and spending bill with a narrow 219-213 vote. Trump took to social media to voice his displeasure, suggesting that the opposition was hurting his cause.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized the Republicans, stating that they were jeopardizing the largest tax cuts in history and a booming economy. He questioned their motives, expressing that the ‘MAGA’ movement was unhappy and that the defiance was costing votes.

The House had previously voted 219-213 on Wednesday night to advance the bill for debate. GOP leaders struggled to overcome resistance to Senate-proposed changes, as reported by CBS News. The vote was delayed for hours as GOP leaders sought to sway dissenters. The former President had set a July 4 deadline for the bill to be signed into law.

As of Thursday morning, several House Republicans had voted against the procedural vote. The GOP leaders worked to change ‘no’ votes. The final vote count was 219 to 213 with only one GOP no vote.

House Republican leaders aimed to quickly pass the legislation, which includes increased spending for border security, defense, and energy production, and extends tax cuts. However, it also involves cuts to health care and nutrition programs, as per CBS News.

Some House Republicans, who had previously voted in favor of an earlier version of the bill in May, expressed dissatisfaction with the Senate’s revisions, CBS News reported. Potential holdouts, including moderates and members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, met with Trump on Wednesday. The Republican-controlled US Senate passed the bill on Tuesday.
