Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Namibia, India is looking to import uranium from the African nation, according to High Commissioner Rahul Shrivastava. He highlighted India’s interest in critical minerals and recent oil and gas discoveries in Namibia as key areas of focus. Shrivastava emphasized the strong historical ties between the two countries, with India having supported Namibia’s independence. Discussions during Modi’s visit will also include defense cooperation, with Namibia seeking to procure defense items from India, and capacity building. The Prime Minister’s visit, the first in 27 years, will involve discussions on trade, investment, and potential collaboration on Project Cheetah 2, following the successful introduction of cheetahs in India. Shrivastava also noted India’s leadership role in the Global South and its strong partnership with Africa.
