In Hazaribagh, Labor Superintendent Anil Ranjan convened a meeting with passenger vehicle and transport operators on July 8th, emphasizing the need for fair labor practices. The primary focus was ensuring that workers in the transportation sector receive wages and other essential benefits as per the provisions. Failure to comply could result in action against operators of buses and other vehicles, along with transport companies. The meeting addressed various issues related to transport workers, culminating in crucial directives from the Labor Superintendent. The directives underlined the importance of adhering to the Motor Transport Workers Act of 1961, which mandates an eight-hour workday for drivers, assistant drivers, and other workers. Furthermore, the directives stipulated that wages must be credited to workers’ bank accounts by the 7th of each month, in compliance with the Payment of Wages Act of 1936. Concerns were raised about operators treating workers unfairly. The Labor Superintendent emphasized the necessity of following the guidelines, especially those issued after the Supreme Court’s instructions. Moreover, it was clarified that minors should not be involved in any transport-related work.
