The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has sanctioned the establishment of a large-scale solar plant within Sector 8, near the Yamuna Expressway, spanning across 200 acres of land. The project, spearheaded by SAEL Solar P6 Private Limited, entails an integrated facility designed to produce 5 GW of solar cells and 5 GW of solar modules. The estimated total cost of this initiative is approximately Rs 8,200 crore. The parent company behind this endeavor, SAEL Industries Limited, is a prominent player in the renewable energy sector. The new unit will augment the company’s existing solar module production capacity to 8.5 GW. The plant will employ advanced TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) technology for solar cell manufacturing. These cells will then be incorporated into solar panels using the company’s own module assembly line. According to YEIDA, the project falls under the ‘Ultra Mega’ category due to its investment exceeding Rs 3,000 crore. It represents a substantial investment in the Yamuna region and will be developed as a greenfield project. Following a Letter of Intent (LOI) issued by YEIDA on February 24 and subsequent approval from ‘Invest UP’ on July 10, the process of land allocation is underway, with the expectation of a 200-acre land transfer this month. Company representatives have already engaged with the YEIDA office regarding documentation and other procedural aspects. The project is anticipated to generate approximately 2,500 jobs, thereby stimulating the solar energy sector. SAEL Solar currently oversees over 6.7 GW of solar projects across India, some of which are operational or under construction. Additionally, the company already possesses a 3.5 GW TOPCon solar module production capacity. The proposed plant in Yamuna City will utilize photovoltaic technology to convert sunlight directly into electricity, a process that involves the application of specialized coatings and electrodes on silicon wafers.
