The White House has asserted that former US President Donald Trump should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in brokering numerous peace deals and ceasefires across the globe. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighted Trump’s mediation efforts, stating that these agreements, averaging one per month, were instrumental in resolving various conflicts.
Leavitt specifically mentioned Trump’s intervention in the Thailand-Cambodia conflict, where he allegedly facilitated an immediate ceasefire, ending a deadly conflict that had displaced over 300,000 people. She stated that Trump communicated directly with the leaders of both nations, linking trade agreements to the cessation of hostilities. Leavitt further claimed that Trump ended conflicts between Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and India and Pakistan.
Notably, India has refuted Trump’s claims of ending hostilities between India and Pakistan. Indian officials have maintained that any matters concerning the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir are to be addressed bilaterally between the two countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that no world leader instructed India to halt its operations. Modi recounted a conversation with the US Vice President, in which he was informed of a potential Pakistani attack, to which he responded with a warning of a strong Indian response. The cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was agreed upon after a call between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries.
