Amidst global trade tensions, particularly regarding tariffs imposed by the US, Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, is set to visit the United States. This marks his second trip to the US within two months. General Munir is scheduled to attend the farewell ceremony of CENTCOM Commander General Michael E. Kurilla in Tampa, Florida, where CENTCOM’s headquarters is located. This frequent travel highlights the ongoing military and strategic ties between the two nations. The timing of Munir’s visit is particularly noteworthy, given the recent announcement of additional tariffs on India by the US, and discussions about establishing an oil storage center in Pakistan. During his previous visit in June, Munir met with former US President Donald Trump, where they discussed matters related to the Indo-Pakistani conflict. The meeting included a lunch, and both leaders exchanged words of appreciation. Trump acknowledged Munir’s efforts in preventing conflict, while Munir reportedly suggested Trump should be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for averting a potential nuclear war between the South Asian neighbors.
