Team India’s middle-order batsman, Karun Nair, had a less-than-stellar tour of England. While Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and Washington Sundar all scored centuries against England, Karun Nair could only manage one half-century in the test series. Following the conclusion of the five-match Test series against England, Karun Nair shared significant thoughts on Test cricket on social media, which led to congratulatory messages regarding retirement, although he has not yet announced his retirement.

In a post on his Instagram page after the end of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Karun Nair, who returned to the Indian team after eight years, expressed his feelings. He wrote, “Where every run is a labor and every wicket is a reward. It challenges your mind, body, and soul – day in and day out. In the last few months, we gave it our all and this team showed what purposeful struggle means? No shortcuts, just the right effort and pride in the badge and a great finish. What a journey!” One fan commented on the post, “Happy Retirement brother”. This has led to speculation about his retirement from Test cricket, but Karun Nair has not issued any statement on the matter. In the Test series against England, Karun Nair scored only 205 runs in 8 innings with an average of around 25, with only one half-century. Currently, Karun Nair is potentially out of the Duleep Trophy. According to reports, Karun Nair sustained an injury to his finger while fielding during the last Test match against England, resulting in a minor fracture. Due to this, his participation in the Duleep Trophy seems unlikely. Karun Nair was scheduled to play for the Central Zone team. The Duleep Trophy 2025 is set to begin on August 28.

Following his poor performance in England, Karun Nair’s return to Test cricket seems challenging. Shreyas Iyer could potentially replace him in the team. Reports suggest that Iyer is fully prepared for a comeback in Test cricket.
