Karnataka’s Cooperation Minister, K.N. Rajanna, has resigned from his position. The resignation occurred after Rajanna publicly stated that “vote theft” occurred during the Congress government’s tenure in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a statement that contradicted the party’s official stance and caused political turmoil. The resignation was delivered to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by Rajanna’s son, Rajendra, a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC). The controversy arose in the context of Rahul Gandhi’s accusations of vote manipulation by the BJP. Rajanna, known as a staunch ally of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, challenged the party’s position on electoral irregularities, stating that these issues were overlooked during the preparation of voter lists. Rahul Gandhi has presented evidence alleging the Election Commission favored the BJP, with specific claims of fraudulent votes in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has dismissed Rajanna’s claims, stating the party leadership will address the issue. Rajanna’s comments have put the Congress party in an awkward position, prompting the high command to potentially request his removal from the cabinet.
