Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s praise for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during his Independence Day speech, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav targeted the organization, stating they are “Swadeshi by word, but foreign at heart.” Speaking to journalists in Lucknow, Akhilesh Yadav commented on the BJP’s initial stance of adhering to secular and socialist principles, which he contrasted with the RSS’s approach. He remarked, “They are Swadeshi by word, but foreign at heart.” This statement came after PM Modi lauded the RSS’s 100-year journey, calling it the world’s “largest NGO.” Modi had noted that the RSS, founded a century ago, has dedicated itself to nation-building. The RSS is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Established in 1925 by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in Nagpur, Maharashtra, the RSS is commemorating its centennial with outreach programs and celebrations across the country. On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, Yadav also emphasized the need for the nation to confront global challenges. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister asserted, “As we celebrate Independence Day, we must acknowledge the world’s challenges. The stronger our farmers are, the stronger our country will be economically, and the better the future of our youth will be, our country will be able to compete with world markets.”
