To curb fatalities from head injuries among two-wheeler riders in Raipur, the police have mandated that all two-wheeler showrooms must provide a helmet with every new vehicle sold. Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Lal Umed Singh issued the directive, warning of strict action against non-compliance. The move aims to address the high number of accidents and deaths, with over 190 fatalities in the last seven months. Despite awareness campaigns, many people still disregard safety regulations. The police have issued over 20,495 challans to those riding without helmets in the same period. The order references Motor Vehicles Act 1989, section 138, which already mandates helmet provision with vehicle sales, a rule often ignored by showrooms. Violators will face action under Motor Vehicle Rules 33-44, including suspension or cancellation of business certificates. The SSP appealed to vehicle sellers to comply and urged citizens to prioritize helmet use for their safety.
