World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the US Open mixed doubles event. The Italian player, slated to partner with Katerina Siniakova against Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev, made the decision following an illness that affected his performance in the Cincinnati Masters final against Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner retired from the final match against Alcaraz after only 23 minutes, citing flu-like symptoms and a high fever that worsened overnight. Despite his condition, Sinner initially took to the court in Cincinnati to compete. However, after five games, he retired to focus on his recovery for the upcoming US Open. This withdrawal from mixed doubles underscores Sinner’s focus on being physically ready to defend his US Open title. While the loss in Cincinnati was disappointing, Sinner viewed it as an opportunity to learn and improve. With the US Open approaching, the tennis world will closely monitor Sinner’s health. His victory in Flushing Meadows in 2023 was a career highlight, and as the current world No. 1, expectations for his performance are substantial. Sinner’s priority is to recover fully and prepare for the singles competition.
