The Chhattisgarh High Court has ruled that a wife taunting her husband for being unemployed and making unreasonable demands during financial difficulties constitutes mental cruelty, providing grounds for divorce. A bench comprising Justices Rajni Dubey and Amitendra Kishore Prasad made this observation while granting a divorce to a man from his wife. The High Court also overturned the Family Court’s earlier decision, which had rejected the husband’s divorce petition. The husband had alleged that his wife began to disrespect him and argue with him after she obtained a PhD and secured a position as a school principal, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when his income source was shut down.
