Dream11, the fantasy sports platform, may be stepping down as the title sponsor for the Indian cricket team’s jersey. Following the passage of the online gaming bill in parliament, games involving online money-making have been restricted, dealing a significant blow to Dream11. Consequently, Dream11 may no longer be the title sponsor for the Indian team’s jersey, potentially leading to the termination of its 358 crore rupees deal with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This could also impact the Indian team’s jersey during the Asia Cup. The question now is, whose name will appear on the Indian team’s jersey during the Asia Cup? Several companies have reportedly expressed interest, and the BCCI is expected to make a major decision soon.

    Key Contenders
The name that will appear on the Indian team’s jersey is about to change. Several major groups have shown interest after Dream11’s potential exit, including established companies like the Tata Group, Reliance, and Adani Group. Tata already plays a significant role in cricket as an official sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Reliance Jio is also involved in sports sponsorship and broadcasting. In addition, the Adani Group has made large investments in sports ventures.

    Other Potential Sponsors
Apart from Tata, Reliance, and Adani Group, fintech companies are also showing interest. These include companies like Zerodha, Angel One, and Grow, which have a strong digital presence. Additionally, automobile and FMCG sectors might also come forward.

Leading automobile companies like Mahindra and Toyota are rapidly expanding in India. They could leverage cricket sponsorship to reach a wider audience. Reports suggest that FMCG brands such as Pepsi, which have a long history with sports, are also looking to try their luck.

    BCCI’s Stance
BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia stated that the board would adhere to the country’s laws regarding Dream11. He mentioned that if online money-making games are restricted, the board would comply. The BCCI will follow every policy made by the central government.

He added that the board will make a decision regarding the jersey sponsor soon. However, if a new sponsor is not found before the Asia Cup, which begins on September 9, the Indian team will participate in the tournament without a sponsor. The Indian team’s jersey has already been printed with Dream11 for the Asia Cup, but it will no longer be used. In 2023, Dream11 signed a contract with the BCCI for 358 crore rupees.
