Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has stirred speculation regarding the reasons behind Virat Kohli’s unexpected retirement from Test cricket. Kohli, who had a less-than-stellar performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, surprised fans by returning to domestic cricket. He participated in a Ranji Trophy match against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, but his innings was short-lived, dismissed for a mere 6 runs off 15 balls. His retirement announcement came abruptly on May 12, 2025, leading Tiwary to suggest that there might be more to the story than meets the eye. Tiwary highlighted that Kohli, given his physical fitness, likely had at least three to four years of Test cricket remaining. Tiwary expressed his surprise and shock, considering Kohli’s preparation for the upcoming England series. He pondered the underlying reasons, speculating about a possible feeling of not being wanted within the team. He believes Kohli, having evolved spiritually, may not publicly reveal the details, focusing on the present. Tiwary, drawing from his experience as a cricketer, hinted at possible issues within the team’s atmosphere, suggesting Kohli may not have been content with it. Kohli concluded his Test career with an impressive record, spanning 14 years and 123 matches, amassing 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and seven double centuries. His contributions to Indian cricket are legendary.
