India’s textile sector is experiencing significant growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh, contributing to the nation’s goal of becoming a developed country by 2047. The industry has seen a substantial increase in value, rising from $112 billion in 2014 to $179 billion currently. This growth is not only reflected in the sector’s size but also in its capacity to generate employment, providing livelihoods for over 46 million people. Technical textiles, once a niche area, are rapidly expanding, with a market size of $26 billion and a projected rise to $40-45 billion by 2030. India exports textiles to over 200 countries, with ready-made garment exports increasing from $14 billion in 2013 to $18 billion in 2024-25. The Tirupur cluster alone achieved a 20% growth, exporting goods worth ₹40,000 crore, while carpet exports increased to ₹17,740 crore. Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the UK and initiatives like Bharat Tex have boosted the ‘Brand India’ image globally, with the aim of reaching a $350 billion market and $100 billion in exports by 2030.
