In a significant move to bolster passenger safety and security, the North Central Railway (NCR) is set to equip nearly 1,800 passenger coaches with advanced CCTV surveillance systems. The initiative encompasses all divisions under NCR, including Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Agra. A total of 1,782 coaches will be fitted with these cameras, including 895 Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches and 887 Integral Coach Factory (ICF) coaches. This project is designed to ensure a secure travel experience for millions of passengers traversing these crucial railway divisions. The phased rollout will begin with high-priority trains such as the Prayagraj-Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Express, Kalindi Express, and Prayagraj-Lalgarh Express. Premium trains, including the Prayagraj Express and Shramshakti Express, will feature modern AI-enabled cameras capable of real-time tracking and enhanced surveillance, which will facilitate the prompt identification of suspicious activities. AC coaches will be equipped with four high-quality cameras each, while general coaches, SLR coaches, and pantry cars will have six cameras to ensure thorough surveillance. The cameras are designed to record clear videos, even at speeds exceeding 100 kmph and in low-light conditions. Footage will be monitored at NCR headquarters and divisional railway manager offices, enabling immediate responses to any security concerns. This effort underscores the railway’s commitment to safe travel and aligns with the broader digital transformation plan, which involves the installation of CCTV cameras at stations and the implementation of AI-based security systems.
