Concerns regarding the detrimental effects of social media on children are escalating globally. A committee of French lawmakers is proposing a ban on social media use for children under the age of 15. They are also suggesting a digital curfew for adolescents aged 15 to 18, restricting their social media access during nighttime hours.
The recommendations stem from a report compiled by the parliamentary committee following months of testimonies from families, social media representatives, and influencers. This follows earlier indications from President Emmanuel Macron’s office that a ban for children and young adolescents could be implemented. Australia has also begun developing landmark legislation, including restrictions for individuals under 16 years old.
