The Supreme Court has made significant remarks regarding the Bihar SIR (Special Information Report). During a hearing on Monday, the court stated it cannot provide a partial opinion on the matter. Any final decision will be applicable nationwide. The court acknowledged that the Constitutional authority, the Election Commission of India, is adhering to the law and mandatory regulations in Bihar. It further stated that if any illegality is found in the Election Commission’s methods at any stage of the Bihar SIR, the entire process will be annulled.

This is particularly important because the Election Commission held a meeting on September 10th, after which officials indicated an all-India voter list revision campaign may be conducted in the coming months, as five states are scheduled to hold assembly elections next year.

The next hearing on the Bihar SIR is scheduled for October 7th. The court has set the date after hearing arguments from both sides. It is anticipated that the election dates for Bihar may be announced following this hearing. Furthermore, the Supreme Court has taken action on a directive to include Aadhaar cards as the 12th prescribed document in the Bihar SIR. The court has issued a notice regarding a petition filed on September 8th, which sought to withdraw the order. The Supreme Court clarified during the September 8th hearing that Aadhaar cards do not serve as proof of citizenship. It also stated that the Election Commission could verify the authenticity of Aadhaar cards presented by voters for inclusion in the voter list.
