External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar convened a bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday, addressing a range of pertinent matters. Both leaders acknowledged the importance of continuous engagement in key areas. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the UNGA session, marking their first face-to-face discussion since trade tensions arose following US tariffs on Indian goods and the purchase of Russian oil. Discussions also touched upon the ongoing efforts to strengthen India-US ties, with the countries working towards a trade agreement. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is leading talks in Washington. The two leaders previously met in July for the 10th Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and earlier in January.
