Assam Mourns Zubeen Garg: CM Shares Emotional Video Explaining Public Grief

Following the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg at 52 during a scuba diving incident in Singapore, Assam has been plunged into mourning. A wave of grief swept across the state, with massive crowds gathering for his funeral to pay their respects. Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, shared a poignant video on social media, addressing the widespread sorrow and explaining why the people of Assam are so deeply affected by Garg’s passing. The CM stated that the public’s connection to Garg was multi-faceted, encompassing his musical talent, rebellious nature, and compassionate character. He highlighted that there is no singular reason, but three key elements: Garg’s music resonated deeply with the emotions of the people, encompassing the diversity of Assam; his fearless spirit; and above all, his extraordinarily helpful and kind nature. The video included a tweet from ANI, which showcased a message from the CM. Garg was scheduled to perform at the North East Festival in Singapore on September 20th. Tragically, he passed away on September 19th due to a scuba diving accident. His body was flown to Delhi, then to Guwahati, and he was laid to rest with full state honors, following three days of state mourning declared by the Assam government.
