The political climate in Uttar Pradesh has intensified following the controversy surrounding the ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign and the subsequent police actions in Bareilly. While several organizations and rights groups have criticized the measures, viewing them as an attempt to intimidate the Muslim community and suppress protests, Congress MP Imran Masood stated on Saturday that mosques are for prayer, not for violence on the streets. Speaking to reporters in Saharanpur, Masood appealed to Muslims to express their love for Muhammad by following his principles, rather than through public disturbances. This statement follows an appeal by Maulana Tauqeer Raza to gather at the city’s Islamia Ground to submit a memorandum to the President, protesting actions against the ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign. Police intercepted those heading to Islamia Ground, leading to violent clashes.
