Following a stampede at actor Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which resulted in 40 fatalities and 95 injuries, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has expressed his grief and raised concerns about crowd management. He emphasized the need for a systematic, nationwide policy to prevent such tragedies. Tharoor noted that such incidents seem to occur frequently, and the loss of life, especially among children, is deeply saddening. He urged the central and state governments to implement strict rules and protocols for managing large crowds, ensuring the safety of the public. The Chief Minister and Prime Minister have announced compensation for the victims and their families. The Chief Minister has announced 10 lakhs for the deceased and 1 lakh for the injured. The Prime Minister has announced 2 lakhs from the PM relief fund for the deceased, and actor Vijay has announced 20 lakhs and 2 lakhs for the deceased and injured, respectively.
