Political activity is intensifying in anticipation of the Bihar assembly elections, with parties strategizing. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its manifesto and campaign committees, with former Union Minister and prominent Rajput leader RK Singh conspicuously absent from both. This absence suggests a brewing discontent. There were rumors suggesting Singh might leave the BJP, but he has denied these reports.

Singh has refuted claims of leaving the party. He stated that he remains in the party and has no plans to join another or form a new one. Despite his assertions, the party appears to have sidelined him due to his rebellious stance, leading to speculation about whether Singh’s actions and his Rajput card will harm the BJP.

During an event in Ara, Singh directly criticized his party, alleging neglect and internal sabotage. He claimed he was undermined during the Lok Sabha elections and is now exploring new political options. While he clarified his commitment to the BJP, his actions have raised questions about his intentions. The situation also involves the potential involvement of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj party.

The party high command is closely monitoring Singh’s activities, especially his efforts to garner Rajput votes. Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Rohtas district was seen as a message to Singh. However, local leaders suggest that Singh’s displeasure is limited to certain individuals, not the party itself.

The BJP is strategizing to address the concerns of the Rajput community. The inclusion of senior Rajput leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy in the election campaign committee and the potential involvement of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as a star campaigner suggest an attempt to mitigate any damage. Local leaders believe Singh’s discontent will not sway the Rajput community, who are expected to vote based on PM Modi’s policies and development.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Singh lost in the Ara constituency, with a vote count lower than his opponent. He blamed internal sabotage for the loss. The question is whether Singh is trying to pressure the party by playing the Rajput card. The Rajput community holds significant influence in the state.

According to recent caste census data, Rajputs constitute 3.45% of Bihar’s population, following Brahmins at 3.66%. The Rajput community has historically shifted their allegiance between parties, aligning with the NDA since PM Modi’s rise to power.

The influence of the Rajputs is evident in the 2015 assembly elections, where 20 Rajput MLAs were elected. The number increased to 28 in 2020. Both BJP-JDU and RJD-Congress relied on Rajput candidates. In the last assembly elections, the BJP fielded 21 Rajput candidates, with 15 winning. The JDU had less success, while the RJD and Congress also saw varying levels of success.
