The Vijaya Dashami festival is celebrated with great fanfare not only in India but also in every place in the world where devotees of Durga Maa reside. This festival is also celebrated with great pomp in neighboring Bangladesh. On the last day of Vijaya Dashami, a different view was seen on the Cox’s Bazar beach during the Sharadiya Durga Utsav. The grand rituals of idol immersion were in full swing here.
The area around the beach became a sea of people due to the crowd of devotees. The biggest idol immersion ceremony in Bangladesh started on Thursday at 2 pm with the Vijaya conference at the open stage of the District Administration located at Laboni Point.
Idols from various pandals of seven blocks of Cox’s Bazar district were brought to the beach by trucks. Thousands of people had arrived to participate in it. Strict security arrangements were also made to deal with any untoward incident.
Approximately 10 percent Hindus live in Bangladesh, and Hinduism is the largest minority religion here. The Hindus living here are mostly from the Bengali community, and Vijaya Dashami is celebrated here with joy and enthusiasm.
Uday Shankar Pal Mithu, the executive president of the District Puja Udghavan Parishad, said that the idol immersion in the sea started at 5 pm with the chanting of mantras. He said, “This grand event is being successfully organized with the special cooperation of the administration. Hindus from far and wide have gathered in Cox’s Bazar on this special day.”
The government had made special arrangements for the security of this ceremony. Extra patrolling was being carried out by the members of the army, BGB, police, and RAB in the beach area since morning. Also, RG control rooms were also set up here. Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan said, “The district administration and law enforcement agencies are working together to make the idol immersion ceremony successful by strengthening the three levels of security.”
