Following the unrest in Nepal, Gen Z in Morocco has taken to the streets, staging protests since the final weeks of September. The discontent among the youth has spread across the nation, mirroring the situation in Nepal, with Moroccan youth now demanding the government’s removal. Demonstrators are calling for the King to dissolve the government. Tragically, the protests have resulted in three fatalities. The Moroccan youth group GenZ 212 has called for the government’s resignation, primarily due to concerns about corruption, the need for improved healthcare and education, and the desire for job opportunities. The protestors’ demands have escalated to the point of seeking regime change. The demonstrations, initially intended to be peaceful, turned violent, leading to clashes with the police on Tuesday and Wednesday. The authorities’ response resulted in three deaths. GenZ 212 issued a statement addressed to King Mohammed VI, urging the dismissal of the government, citing its failure to protect citizens’ constitutional rights and address their social concerns. They are also calling for a fair judicial process to prosecute those responsible for corruption. Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch had previously expressed the government’s willingness to address social demands and engage in dialogue regarding the youth protests.
