Following the deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh linked to cough syrup, the government and administration are taking swift action. Dr. Praveen Soni, a pediatrician stationed at the Civil Hospital in Parasia, Chhindwara, has been suspended after his arrest.

Dr. Soni is implicated in the deaths of 11 children due to a toxic Coldrif syrup he prescribed. This has caused widespread concern and a thorough investigation is underway. The investigation revealed that Dr. Soni prescribed medications that adversely affected infants’ kidneys, leading to their deaths.

Health Commissioner Tarun Rathi stated in the suspension order issued on Sunday, “Dr. Praveen Soni, a pediatrician posted at the Civil Hospital in Parasia, Chhindwara district, was found to be engaged in private practice, during which he prescribed certain medications to infants brought to him for treatment. Several of these children subsequently developed high fever and difficulty urinating, and some tragically died.”

SP Ajay Pandey reported to the media that a case has been filed against Dr. Soni under sections 105 BNS, 276 BNS, and 27(a) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Dr. Soni treated the majority of the affected children. He had prescribed the Coldrif medication. Based on this, he has been made an accused in the case. The manufacturing company, Srisan Pharmaceuticals of Tamil Nadu, has also been named as a main accused. The doctor is currently in police custody.
