The Indian cricket team has been undergoing a period of transformation, especially regarding leadership changes. Following the shift in Test cricket, the captaincy of the ODI format has also been passed on to new hands. Shubman Gill, an experienced batsman, will now lead India in both Test and ODI teams. While Gill has been given this opportunity, the aspiration to lead is a common desire among almost every player in the Indian team. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has recently made his place in the Indian team, is among the players who have the desire to captain and are preparing themselves for it.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made his debut in international cricket only two years ago, and by starting with the most challenging format, he has secured his place in the Indian team. Jaiswal is now an important part of the Indian Test team and is among the selected names in the playing eleven of any match. There is a constant demand to make him a regular part of the ODI and T20 teams, for which Jaiswal is not only capable but also deserving. But the dreams of this young batsman are even higher.

In a YouTube podcast, the 23-year-old batsman Jaiswal revealed his ambitions and preparations. While speaking in the Raj Shamani podcast, the left-handed opener said, “I work on myself every day so that I can emerge as a leader. One day I want to become a captain.” Jaiswal did not say that he only wants to become the captain of the Indian team, but there is no need to say that because the ultimate goal is the same. However, he would also definitely like to captain in the IPL.

This is not the first time that the ambitions of this Indian batsman regarding captaincy have come to the fore. A few months ago, Jaiswal had left his Mumbai Cricket Association in domestic cricket and joined Goa Cricket. Here, preparations were underway to make him the captain. However, at the last moment, Jaiswal changed his decision.

Moreover, there were speculations about a tug-of-war regarding leadership in the IPL 2025 season at Rajasthan Royals. Later, it was also revealed that a section of the franchise was in favor of making Jaiswal the captain, but then Riyan Parag was given this responsibility. During this time, rumors of Jaiswal’s displeasure also surfaced. Thus, it is clear that Yashasvi has very high aspirations, and looking at his commitment, it seems that he will fulfill them.
