Ranchi Bus Terminals to Get National Standard Upgrade: Rs 48.72 Crore Approved

Ranchi is set to witness a significant upgrade of its three major bus terminals, including ITI Bus Stand, Government Bus Depot, and Birsa Munda Bus Terminal in Khadgara. These facilities will be modernized and renovated to meet national standards, following a directive from Chief Minister Hemant Soren to accelerate urban development projects. A total of Rs 48.72 crore has been sanctioned for this ambitious undertaking. The ITI Bus Stand will receive the largest share of funding with Rs 24.77 crore, followed by the Government Bus Depot at Rs 20.19 crore, and the Birsa Munda Bus Terminal at Rs 3.76 crore. The Urban Development and Housing Minister has instructed the departmental principal secretary to expedite the commencement of work through JUHDCO. The ITI Bus Stand, currently offering minimal passenger amenities, will be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility spread across three acres. It will feature a terminal building with ground and first floors, housing essential amenities such as a driver canteen, maintenance shed, guard room, modern entrance, waiting lounges, and dedicated parking for cars, autos, and e-rickshaws. The first floor will include a restaurant, administrative offices, ticket counters, dormitory facilities, locker-equipped guest rooms, and landscaping. The terminal is designed to handle the operation of 416 buses daily. The Government Bus Depot, built between 1962 and 1970 and now in a dilapidated state, will be reconstructed according to Indian Road Congress standards for Rs 20.19 crore. The new structure will provide enhanced facilities across its ground and first floors, including a guard room, maintenance area, dormitory, waiting lounge, food kiosks, sheltered bus bays, a sliding gate, and parking. Approximately 512 buses will operate daily through eight bus bays. The Birsaunda Munda Bus Terminal in Khadgara will undergo renovation for Rs 3.76 crore, focusing on enhancing convenience while preserving its existing structure. This expansive terminal will feature 31 bus bays, parking for 89 buses and 70 cars, smart shelters, a 50-bed dormitory, restrooms, bathing facilities, a guesthouse, high-mast lighting, a boundary wall, and special arrangements for women’s safety. Landscaping and beautification of the premises are also planned. The principal secretary has urged JUHDCO to expedite the tender process and begin construction promptly. Upon completion, Ranchi’s bus terminals are expected to become national-level model standards, offering passengers a superior experience in terms of safety, cleanliness, and modern amenities.
