New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has extended warm Diwali wishes to communities across the nation. In a heartfelt message, he emphasized the festival’s significance as a time for reflection, reconnection, and spreading happiness and positivity. Luxon shared his sentiments in a video message on social media platform X, stating, “The world needs a lot of that.” He highlighted Diwali’s core message as the triumph of light over darkness, hope over despair, and good over evil, wishing everyone a joyous Diwali and a prosperous year ahead.

The festival, celebrated globally on Monday, symbolizes the spiritual victory of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. It reflects India’s rich cultural heritage and promotes universal messages of unity and harmony. Earlier celebrations in New Zealand included an event hosted by the Bank of New Zealand in Wellington, attended by various dignitaries including opposition leader Chris Hipkins, MPs Melissa Lee and Priyanca Radhakrishnan, and Indian High Commissioner Neeta Bhushan, underscoring the growing partnership between India and New Zealand. The iconic Beehive, New Zealand’s Parliament building, also hosted a Diwali celebration, with Prime Minister Luxon participating in the festivities, further strengthening cultural ties.
