Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially kicked off the campaign trail for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections in 2025, throwing his significant support behind Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The state is poised for a high-stakes electoral battle, primarily between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Mahagathbandhan. The incumbent NDA, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is aiming to secure another term in power.
Addressing a massive rally in Samastipur, PM Modi confidently predicted a resounding victory for the NDA. He highlighted the transformation of Bihar, stating that the state was liberated from ‘Jungle Raj’ in October 2005 when Nitish Kumar took the helm. Modi recalled that during the previous Congress-RJD rule, the alliance allegedly hindered Nitish Kumar’s progress and caused distress to the people of Bihar.
“The Congress-RJD government put obstacles in Nitish Kumar’s path and left no stone unturned to trouble the people of Bihar. The RJD used to take revenge on the people of Bihar for voting for Nitish Kumar,” the Prime Minister stated, further alleging that the RJD threatened to withdraw support from the Congress if they conceded to the demands of Nitish Kumar or the NDA-BJP alliance.
PM Modi expressed strong faith in Nitish Kumar’s leadership and the Janta Dal (United), predicting that the NDA will surpass all previous victory margins in Bihar. “This time, under the leadership of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, NDA will break all its previous records of victory. Bihar will give NDA its biggest ever mandate,” he declared.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to socialist icon Karpoori Thakur, recognizing him as a source of inspiration for his government’s policies. Samastipur, a constituency traditionally held by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) since 2010, was a focal point of Modi’s address. The NDA coalition includes the BJP, JD(U), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), HAM(S), and RLM, while the Mahagathbandhan comprises the RJD, Congress, CPI-ML, CPI, CPM, and VIP. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj has also announced its intention to contest all 243 seats.
