The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially addressed the alarming molestation incident involving two Australian women cricketers in Indore. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia described the event as ‘deeply regrettable and isolated,’ emphasizing India’s reputation for hospitality. The two unnamed cricketers were reportedly approached by a motorcyclist while walking to a nearby cafe from their hotel. This unfortunate incident has drawn widespread condemnation, and the BCCI stated its zero-tolerance policy towards such acts. Saikia commended the Madhya Pradesh Police for their swift apprehension of the accused, Aqeel Khan, and assured that justice would be served through due legal process. The board also plans to review and enhance existing safety protocols for visiting athletes. The Australian team, currently in Indore for a World Cup match, is reportedly under increased security following the incident, which has unfortunately cast a shadow over the ongoing Women’s ODI World Cup.
