President Donald Trump expressed optimism following his recent high-level meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, suggesting the summit would usher in an era of ‘everlasting peace and success’ for both the United States and China. Trump shared his positive assessment on social media, stating that the ‘G2 meeting’ was highly beneficial for both nations. He further declared that this encounter would pave the way for enduring tranquility and prosperity. Trump’s remarks came after the two leaders convened in Busan, South Korea, against the backdrop of persistent trade disputes between the two global economic powers. Following their discussion, Trump announced a significant reduction in US tariffs on Chinese goods, lowering them from 57% to 47%. He also indicated that all issues concerning rare earth minerals had been resolved. China reciprocated the positive sentiment, with President Xi echoing the potential for joint action that would benefit both countries and the global community. The Chinese leader emphasized their shared responsibility as major nations to work collaboratively for the betterment of their populations and the world. This diplomatic engagement also saw an agreement to establish direct military-to-military communication channels, aiming to prevent and reduce tensions arising from any potential conflicts. This crucial step towards de-escalation was confirmed after discussions between US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun in Malaysia. Hegseth echoed Trump’s positive outlook, describing the US-China relationship as ‘never been better’ and highlighting the importance of mutual respect and positive relations for global stability and strength.
