Armenia is on the verge of finalizing a substantial $3.5 to $4 billion arms agreement with India, a significant move amid escalating tensions with Azerbaijan. This landmark deal is expected to encompass advanced air defense systems, potent missile platforms, and crucial artillery, significantly bolstering Armenia’s defense capabilities. It also marks a pivotal expansion of India’s strategic influence in the vital South Caucasus region.

The focal point of the agreement includes the highly advanced Akash-NG missile system. Renowned for its superior interception prowess and extended range, the Akash-NG is anticipated to fortify Armenia’s multi-layered air defense network. The system previously garnered attention for its performance during India’s ‘Operation Sindoor.’

Furthermore, Armenia has expressed keen interest in acquiring India’s formidable BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. This missile system is recognized for its offensive capabilities and has a history of demonstrated effectiveness. The strategic acquisition is viewed by defense analysts as a transformative upgrade for Armenia’s military readiness.

This burgeoning defense partnership also serves to amplify India’s defense export objectives and champions its ‘Make in India’ initiative, showcasing indigenous technological advancements on the global stage. The collaboration signifies a growing trend of nations seeking advanced, reliable defense solutions from India. Analysts anticipate this deal will reshape regional military dynamics and underscore India’s expanding role in international defense supply chains.
