A significant anti-Naxalite operation in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district has resulted in the elimination of six Maoist cadres. The intense gunbattle erupted in the Indravati National Park region when a joint security force, comprising personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) of Bijapur and Dantewada districts, was conducting an operation based on intelligence regarding the presence of high-ranking Maoist leaders. The exchange of fire persisted for several hours. Following the confrontation, security forces discovered the bodies of six Naxalites, along with sophisticated automatic weapons and explosives. Reinforcements, including teams from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF), were deployed to secure the area and apprehend any fleeing insurgents. The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh lauded the operation as a major stride towards eradicating the Maoist insurgency from the state. This successful operation contributes to the ongoing efforts to achieve the goal of eliminating Naxalism by March 2026. In a separate incident in Bijapur, an injured Naxalite was apprehended after a brief encounter in the Annaram village forest and has been hospitalized for treatment. This latest success brings the total number of Naxalites killed in Chhattisgarh this year to 259, underscoring the intensified security clampdown.
